PCT Antigen (Cat# 21231216)
Procalcitonin (PCT) is a 116 amino acid pro-inflammatory marker proposed to be used as a pertinent marker in the rapid diagnosis of bacterial infections. PCT can be stimulated by bacterial products like endotoxins/LPS. PCT is a prohormone of the hormone calcitonin. PCT is produced in certain types of cells including parafollicular cells (C-cells) of the thyroid gland in response to inflammation or infection, while Calcitonin is exclusively in response to hormonal stimuli.
